In celebrating Zambia’s 60th Independence Anniversary, the Zambia Law Development Commission (ZLDC), in partnership with the Italian School of Lusaka and the Model United Nations Zambia team, hosted the Zambia Parliamentary Model United Nations Conference on September 14, 2024. This event, which served as the highlight of the Commission’s Zambia@60 commemorative activities, brought together 21 secondary schools from three provinces—Central, Eastern, and Lusaka—for a day of dynamic debate, diplomacy, and legislative innovation.
In preparation for the conference, the young visionaries underwent intensive training by the ZLDC and the Zambia Model United Nations team, equipping them with skills in parliamentary debate, diplomacy, and collaboration.
During the conference, which simulated Zambian Parliamentary Committees, the students (properly called “delegates”) represented various constituencies and engaged in deliberations and presentations on topics such as artificial intelligence, electronic voting, natural resource management, renewable energy, pandemics, regulation of tobacco and alcohol, access to information, and corruption. After the committee sessions, each committee developed resolutions that addressed developmental issues that were raised during their deliberations.
