ZLDC CONDUCTS PUBLIC LECTURE IN ZIMBA DISTRICT-SOUTHERN PROVINCE

On 8th April 2026, the Zambia Law Development Commission held a Public Lecture in Zimba District, Southern Province, under the theme “Governance Starts With Us: Strengthening Participation at the Local Level.” The event brought together various stakeholders within the District, including community members, local leaders, and institutional representatives, with the aim of promoting citizen participation, enhancing accountability, and strengthening engagement in local governance processes.

The Public Lecture featured insightful contributions from notable panel discussants. Mr. Partner Siabutuba, Executive Director of the Youth Development Organisation, emphasised the importance of active citizen participation in both local and national governance processes. Dr. Litrudah Chiila also provided valuable perspectives on the theme, highlighting the role of inclusive engagement in strengthening governance at the grassroots level.

To ensure inclusivity and effective communication, translation services were provided during the session by Mr. Mordecai Mweene, a member of staff at the Commission. The programme further included a plenary session, which provided participants with an opportunity to engage with the panel, share views, and raise questions on issues affecting governance and participation at the local level.

The Commission undertakes such stakeholder engagements as part of its mandate to promote participatory law reform and public involvement in governance processes. Members of the public are therefore encouraged to follow the Commission’s website and social media platforms for updates on upcoming activities and opportunities for participation.

The lecture contributed to increased awareness on the importance of citizen involvement in governance processes and reinforced the Commission’s commitment to inclusive and responsive law reform.
