ZLDC PAYS A COURTESY CALL TO THE MINISTER OF JUSTICE HON. PRINCESS KASUNE…AS SHE REAFFIRMS SUPPORT FOR THE ZAMBIA LAW DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION

Today, July 24, 2024, the Zambia Law Development Commission (ZLDC) paid a courtesy visit to the newly appointed Minister of Justice, Hon. Princess Kasune, at the Ministry Headquarters in Lusaka.
In a statement, the Justice Minister reaffirmed the government’s support for the Commission, emphasizing the importance of its role in undertaking, analyzing, reviewing, and developing laws that promote the rule of law and human rights in the country. She also highlighted the need for continued law reform, stating that as laws are being reviewed they ought to represent all citizens regardless of gender or any social classification.
She further called on the Commission to simplify the language in the laws to make them more understandable to the general public as this will enhance legal literacy among citizens.
Meanwhile, Mr. Emmanuel Sibongo, reading a speech on behalf of ZLDC Chairperson Madam Justice Ruth Chibbabbuka, congratulated Hon. Kasune on her new appointment and provided insight into the Commission’s law reform agenda and the upcoming programmes. These include commemorative events to mark the country’s 60 years of independence, with a national law conference scheduled for September 30th to October 2nd, 2024 being one of the key highlights.
The commemorative activities will involve various educational and interactive events aimed at engaging different segments of society, including universities, colleges, secondary schools, and the general public.
The Commission delegation included three Commissioners Dr. Henry C. Mpuku, Dr. Bibian Kalinde, and Mr.Emmanuel Sibongo. Others were the Commission Director Mrs. Hope Chanda, Mr. Michelo Muhyila (Human Resources and Administration Manager), Mr. Innocent Siachitoba (Research Officer), and Mr. Teddy Likando (Assistant Research Officer).
